Kixi Katzenkino is the lost cat of pioneering German animation director Lotte Reiniger. He was her hidden co-director in the 1920s, giving her silhouette animations the darkness they needed.
As a mischievous cat, Kixi had an accident with his multiplane camera. It fell on his head and reset his personality.
Decades passed before he found a pioneering animation group to share his love and purrs with. When asked what the studio would be called, Kixi himself named it after his own name, Studio Kixta.
Kixta is a new term, synonymous with fast movement and related to the term “kino”, which characterizes the reproduction of 24 fps animation.
In search of a mascot, a cat was chosen thanks to the taste of Jaiovi, Bruno and Erandi, joking with MicheCine about an idea for a cinema bar in Monterrey, one night in May 2023 at BiblioTEC.
Jaiovi approved the mascot because of the many stray cats around the first exhibition space: Casa Naranjos Monterrey.
The name Kixi is the graphic letters of Kixta with two eyes (i) and a mouth (x).
Katzenkino is German for "cat cinema".
